Day 4 - Drivers galore

Tuesday, August 09, 2005

This morning's events consist mainly of decathlon qualifying heats as well as the Javelin qualifications, so I decided it was high time to find the driver of the little red car that carries all the javelins, hammers, etc.

After much detective work, I finally found the driver up in the VIP stands beside the cameras, although he is a fairly nondescript character, which was what made it so hard to track him down...

It makes me wonder what this fellow would put on his resume - "Professional Radio Controlled Car Driver."?

Speaking of drivers, I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes. On the way to the stadium this morning, we passed a "Karaoke Taxi". I guess it helps to pass the time on those long commutes...

Now back to the Javelin action, where the local Finnish champion, Aki Parviainen, is getting the crowd into it by throwing the 3rd best javelin throw of the morning. Not quite enough for automatic qualification, so he'll have to hope that the afternoon qualifying round is not too strong. The wind today is very strong and seems to be giving the athletes some issues.
